SUPPORT GREEN LIGHT NY
We continue our advocacy for Green Light NY legislation to provide driver’s licenses to all New Yorkers, regardless of immigration status. Details about the legislation can be found at https://workerscny.org/en/green-light-ny-driving-together-luz-verde-ny-manejando-juntos/. Please call your state legislators and Governor Cuomo.
The message is: support the Green Light NY legislation to allow all New Yorkers to obtain driver’s licenses, regardless of immigration status. Without licenses, immigrants cannot drive to work or buy groceries, nor take their children to school or to medical appointments. When immigrants don’t have access to licenses, a routine traffic stop can lead to deportation and the separation of families. Moreover, extending licenses to immigrants will make our roads safer and lead to a stronger New York economy due to fees that will be collected. Licenses, of course, will always be obtained in accordance with DMV’s other requirements concerning age for different kinds of permits and licenses, as well as written and road tests that must be passed and insurance that must be obtained.
- State Senator David Valesky: 315-478-8745
- State Senator John DeFrancisco: 315-428-7632
- Assembly Member William Magnarelli: 315-428-9651
- Assembly Member Pamela Hunter: 315-449-9536
- Assembly Member Al Stirpe: 315-452-1115
- Governor Andrew Cuomo: 1-518-474-8390
The message for Gov. Cuomo should be slightly different, urging him to support the legislation in the Senate and Assembly, as well as to take whatever executive actions he can to facilitate these driver’s licenses as soon as possible.
