Action Alerts – Week of Aug 5th

Please find below the weekly ACTION ALERTS from Indivisible NY24 and our legislative action teams.  

Tuesday – August 6

12 p.m. Silent Protest. Our friends with the Syracuse Immigrant and Refugee Defense Network have been hosting a weekly 15-min. silent noon vigil outside Rep. Katko’s office, 440 S. Warren St in Syracuse, to demand closing of the concentration camps along the southern border. Click here for more details on this weekly recurring action. If you can’t make it in person, please call Katko’s office and ask him to support legislation forbidding family separation and caging children, closing the camps, and reunifying families: 315-423-5657 or 202-225-4042.

7:30 PM – 8:30 PM Shine a Light for Voting Rights – 100 S Clinton St., Syracuse –show your support for strong voting rights on the anniversary of the Voting Rights Amendments. More details here. This is part of a national action fighting voter suppression. 

6 p.m. Meet and Greet Jessica Bumpus, Candidate for Onondaga County Legislature. Information is here.


Wednesday, August 7th

Letters to the Editor on Katko’s Opposition to Sanctuary Cities. The day after our vigil protesting abuse of immigrants, John Katko sent a partisan letter to his constituents opposing a bill to make New York a sanctuary state. Write a letter to the editor decrying Katko’s support for Trump’s campaign against immigrants. Katko’s letter is here. Our guide to writing letters to the editor (with contact information) ishere.

Fri, Oct 11: Voter registration deadline for 2019 general election

Fri, Oct 11: Indivisible co-founder Ezra Levin will be delivering a lecture at SU’s Maxwell School in conjunction with his new book, co-authored with Leah Greenberg, on the Indivisible movement. Main lecture will likely be 4pm, but there may be other events as well. More details as we have them.
