Action Alerts – Week of July 6

CNY Solidarity members and supporters:
Please find below the weekly ACTION ALERTS from Indivisible NY24 and our legislative action teams.

Top priorities this week are continued support for police reform in Syracuse (with Last Chance for Change nearing the end of their 40 consecutive days of marching for the cause) and gerrymandering reform in Onondaga County (with the County Leg. scheduled to vote on the issue on Tuesday).

Today (July 6)

Police Reform Now!

Coming off last week’s public meeting with city leadership, the People’s Agenda for Police Reform remains a top Coalition priority. The City of Syracuse spends a full 20% of its budget on a police force, 95% of whose officers live in the suburbs. This allocation of scarce city resources is unjust and unsustainable. Watch this space for next steps and further updates, and in the meantime, please raise police reform in every interaction with local elected officials.

Tuesday (July 7)

Redistricting Reform Now!

The Onondaga County Legislature’s public hearing and vote on Local Law C to establish an Independent Redistricting Commission will be held today. Join our friends at Fair Maps CNY for a 12 noon rally & press conference outside, followed by a 1pm public hearing inside (where people will be allowed to speak). Onondaga County Legislature Chambers, Room 407 of the Court House, 401 Montgomery St. 13202. More details here.
