First, an announcement: Given current challenges, the May 6 Full Coalition Meeting will be an important discussion of the ongoing development of the priorities and direction of the Coalition. Please come. A Full Coalition Meeting will be followed by Committee meetings.

Note also that Congress is on recess again this week, which means Rep. Katko should be in the district. Please let us know if you spot him anywhere.

Another chance to weigh in on new Syracuse police chief

AccessCNY hosts a community input session on what Syracuse should be looking for in a new police chief, particularly as it relates to policing of individuals with a mental health diagnosis and/or disability. 5:30-7pm at the Central New York Community Foundation Ballroom at 431 E. Fayette Street in Syracuse.

May Day Workers’ Festival

CNY Solidarity joins a coalition of local grassroots groups to celebrate International Workers’ Day. 11:30-1:00 at Perseverance Park, 205 S. Salina St. More details here.

Speak up for the New York Health Act at the Onondaga County Legislature!

At 1pm the Onondaga County Legislature will consider a resolution in support of the New York Health Act. We need you there to show your support! A successful vote in Onondaga County endorsing truly universal health care in New York State will inspire more actions across the state. This is your opportunity to speak about why universal health care is so important to YOU. Testimony will be limited to two minutes per speaker. RSVP to let us know you can be there and make your voice heard. All are welcome to attend and show support, even if you don’t testify. If you plan to speak, please arrive at 401 Montgomery St. by 12:45. Please give yourself ample time to find parking downtown and to pass through building security.

A call for online engagement with Katko today, plus a community grid forum tonight

Publicly engage with Rep. Katko wherever we can

Rep. Katko is supposed to be in the district this week, but we’re having trouble finding him. In the meantime, let’s continue to engage with him online. Today, please visit Katko’s page on Facebook, find a post of interest, and post a comment of your own. We recommend polite, substantive engagement on the issues. If you’re not a Facebook user, you can try the same thing on Twitter, being sure to mention @RepJohnKatko. If you don’t use FB or Twitter, please write a letter to the editor commenting on Katko’s record on an issue of your choice. Opportunities for public engagement on immigrant rights and policing in schools—both today in Syracuse

Meeting with Assembly Member Magnarelli

Constituents of Assembly Member Magnarelli: Please join us to meet with Mr. Magnarelli to seek his support for the GreenLight legislation to allow driver’s licenses for undocumented individuals.

We will gather at 1:15 PM downstairs at the State Office Building, 333 East Washington Street, Syracuse 13202 to go over the meeting format. Several affected immigrants will take the lead in speaking with Mr. Magnarelli, facilitated by Rebecca Fuentes and Ruth Kutz. It is essential that we have a large delegation of his constituents. School Safety Town Hall

Weekly “Say No to Katko” protest

11:00-12:00, on the sidewalk outside Wegmans Dewitt, near the traffic light, across from Talbots. We’ve had 10-30 people out every week for the past several months. As the weather improves, we’d like to make these even bigger, so please join us. More details here.

Tue., May 22, 5:30-7:30pm: Diverse coalition of organizations is planning actions to demand that Gov. Cuomo use all of his authority to carry out adequate school funding to every district, per court orders that have too long been ignored. These actions will take place on and around August 22.
